FAQ‘S

MRO is the abbreviation for Medical Review Officer. A Medical Review Officer ( MRO) is a licensed medical doctor who is responsible for receiving and reviewing laboratory results generated by an
employer’s drug testing program. Additionally providing medical explanations for certain drug test results.  We advocate for the accuracy and integrity of the drug testing process.

Each company that hires federal and non-federal drivers requires by law safety measures which include drug testing on employment, return to duty, random and suspicious causes.

MRO’s are licensed certified physicians responsible for receiving, reviewing and interpreting laboratory results from a drug test. MRO’s are also qualified to evaluate medical explanations from certain drug test results. The MRO plays a critical role in drug testing programs in assessing whether an alternate medical explanation can account for a positive drug test. The MRO makes the final determination as to the accuracy of a drug test – their decision is as critical as the laboratory findings.

The MRO is an integral part of federally mandated drug testing programs and plays a fundamental role in fulfilling the constitutional requirements of the Fourth Amendment for Government mandated drug testing. Company / Employer designated MRO’s are independent and impartial ‘gatekeepers’ acting as advocates for the accuracy and integrity of the drug testing process. The MRO is committed to upholding the highest standards of privacy and integrity expected for all tests and exams.

The MRO will ensure the following standards are met for ALL clients:

  • Protect the confidentiality of the drug testing outcomes and their associated explanations.

The MRO will be provided a listing of all employees from the Company DER (Direct Employee Representative). The MRO will select employees to submit themselves for testing via a randomized algorithm that will ensure that no individual is tested more than twice per year.
